Suspect Killed by Police was Registered Sex Offender ANAHEIM -- A man who was shot and killed by Anaheim police a day after he allegedly wounded another officer was a registered sex offender wanted by Long Beach police on a warrant for indecent exposure, authorities said today.

David Michael Abrams, 40, of Long Beach, was fatally shot by Anaheim police early Monday morning, said Anaheim police Sgt. Tim Schmidt. .

Abrams was a registered sex offender wanted on a no-bail parole violation warrant and one alleging indecent exposure, Schmidt said.

Abrams had felony convictions for burglary and indecent exposure, Schmidt said.

The exchange of gunfire occurred on the eastbound Riverside (91) Freeway at Brookhurst Street in Anaheim shortly after midnight Monday, Schmidt said. The shooting closed the freeway for nearly twelve hours backing up traffic for miles.

Abrams, who was under surveillance at the time, sped away when police tried to pull him over on the Riverside Freeway, but he encountered traffic as he neared Brookhurst Street, and his vehicle struck several others as he tried to get through, Schmidt said.

Abrams crashed into a vehicle in front of him, disabling his own vehicle, then got out carrying a handgun and took cover behind other vehicles on the freeway, Schmidt said.

Abrams, who exchanged shots with at least two Anaheim police officers, was wounded and died at the scene, Schmidt said.

A woman was wounded and taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Her name was withheld, and her condition was unavailable. But Schmidt said her wound or wounds were not life threatening.

The shooting ended a daylong search that started Sunday morning with the report of a man exposing himself to adults and children at a motel about a half-mile south of Disneyland.

Police believe Abrams shot an officer outside the Best Western Raffles Inn, 2040 S. Harbor Blvd., about 8 a.m. Sunday, Schmidt said. The officer suffered a leg wound and is expected to recover.

The Sunday morning shooting occurred while officers were investigating a report that the man was exposing himself at the Best Western, police said.
