Mummified Remains Found in Beverly Hills Home

July 3, 2008, 3:46 PM PDT

Mummified Remains Found in Beverly Hills Home BEVERLY HILLS -- Some skateboarders made a shocking discovery inside a vacant Beverly Hills home.

They found the decomposing body of a man. Now police are asking for public help to identify him.

Officials say the teenagers were skateboarding in the 700 block of North Alta Drive on June 26 when they smelled a foul odor and made the discovery inside an abandoned house.

Terrified, they had a relative call police.

Beverly HIlls police Lt. Executive Officer Tony Lee said the body was curled in a fetal position and appeared to have been mummified, though he did not elaborate.

The L.A. County Coroner's office says the man had been dead for about a year.

Based on an assortment of old bags and a bicycle near the body, officers determined the deceased was probably homeless.

He's described as a white man in his 40s or 50s.

Police were reportedly following up with the property owner, who does not appear to have visited the house in a long time.

Investigators do not suspect foul play in the man's death.
