Camera Thief Caught on Surveillance Video
May 9, 2008, 8:55 PM PDT

Camera Thief Caught on Surveillance Video Garden Grove -- Police are urging a man suspected of stealing high tech cameras in Garden Grove to turn himself in.

They say they can clearly identify him, thanks to a surveillance photo captured by the cameras he was stealing.

Apparently it did not occur to the thief that the cameras were recording, according to Garden Grove police Lt. Dave Kivler, adding that the man was probably attracted to the new and hi-tech nature of the devices.

But he was correct in his assumptions that they would take very clear pictures, Kivler said.

The suspect stole the four cameras from the outside of a commercial building housing REVCO Industries, 12833 Monarch St., about 1:30 p.m. on May 1.

The footage shows the man stealing each of the four cameras and captures him start to sweat from his labor and remove his jacket, Kivler said. He appears to favor his left hand, signalling that he could be left-handed, Kivler said.

Police released the footage in the hope that he will be recognized, but recommended that the man turn himself in.

The suspect was described as bald and possibly 6 feet tall with a medium build, Kivler said.

Anyone with information on the suspect was asked to call Detective Paul Danielson at (714) 741-5842.
