Gold Thieves Hit 11 JC Penny Stores JC Penney is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the those who have burglarized 11 stores in the past year.

Surveillance cameras captures one heist as masked burglars grabbed jewelry from cases at an Escondido J.C. Penny store.

The burglary occurred at the store in the Westfield-North County Mall.

Police said the thieves left with about $100,000 worth of jewelry. Most of the items were gold.

The store's surveillance video showed the thieves leap over the counter, open the doors of the cases and scoop jewels into bags.

The break-in is believed to be part of a yearlong string of nearly a dozen similar burglaries recorded statewide, most of them in Southern California.

Surveillance video shows a group of burglars dressed in dark clothes and wearing ski masks, he said.
