Mom Who Kidnapped Hospitalized Baby Arrested

ORANGE -- An Amber alert has been cancelled for a 10 month old baby allegedly kidnapped by his mother from Children's Hospital of Orange County.The baby has been found safe in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Alakahi Thompson was taken from the hospital at 455 S. Main St. in Orange around 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department. The suspect, identified as Ida Marybel Torres, is under arrest along with her cousin. Her other two children, 5 and 11, are also safe and in police custody. Broadcast reports indicate someone who knew Torres saw the story on television, called her on her cell phone and told her to surrender to authorities. The baby, who was being treated for pneumonia when he was kidnapped, is being taken to a hospital for evaluation.
