Escalade Crashes Into L.A. Church South L.A. -- Police are searching for the driver of a sport utility vehicle that collided with another car and plowed into a South Los Angeles church.

The accident on the corner of West 80th Street and South Western Avenue was reported shortly before midnight, Sgt. Clarence Perkins of the Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Division said.

A woman in a Buick Century was traveling northbound on Western Avenue and, while making a left turn, crashed into a Cadillac Escalade headed south on Western Avenue, Perkins said.

After the crash, the driver of the Escalade, which had paper plates, continued in a southwesterly direction, drove off the roadway and crashed through the front of St. John's Deliverance Church of God and Christ at 8001 South Western Ave., he said. The Escalade's driver then bolted from the vehicle and left the scene.

The woman in the Buick was taken to a hospital complaining of pain, he said, adding that her condition was not immediately known.

The church was boarded up after the Escalade was towed from the crash site, Perkins said.
