Ronald McDonald House Charities

FLOAT THEME:

We Celebrate Family

Through four Southern California Ronald McDonald Houses, two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, RMHCSC brings families together to celebrate their love and support their needs during difficult times. The Ronald McDonald Houses provide families with a place to stay near their child’s hospital and provides the added comfort of being surrounded by those who understand and can relate to their situation. The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, located within pediatric hospitals near neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, provide families a place to escape the stress and tension of the hospital. Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times offers free traditional sleep-away camp experience to children who currently have, or have recovered from, cancer accompanied by their families. Through these programs, RMHCSC is committed to keeping families together to help in their child’s recovery.

At the heart of every celebration throughout the world is family. RMHCSC’s commitment to preserving the family unit by supporting them through difficult times gives them a “Passport to the World’s Celebrations.”

FLOAT BUILDER: Phoenix Decorating Co.
FLOAT DESCRIPTION:

Height: 22 ft.
Width: 18 ft.
Length: 50 ft.

The float depicts a gigantic shoe topped with a classic Victorian house evoking thoughts of the “old lady who had so many children she didn’t know what to do.” The Ronald McDonald House Charities Southern California, however, does know what to do as the charity creates Ronald McDonald Houses and Family Rooms near hospitals to accommodate families of seriously ill children. Additionally, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times allows families the chance to come together and share common bonds and experiences with other families going through similar situations. The float proclaims the theme “We Celebrate Family,” which is the guiding sentiment at each of the Ronald McDonald Houses. RMHCSC is celebrating its 4th year in the Rose Parade, and its 30th year committed to improving the health and well-being of children throughout Southern California.

FLOWERING:

The gigantic shoe is created with whole red carnations, and features laces of yellow strawflower, and soles of light flax seed. The houses atop the shoe are decorated with ground white rice, fine cut strawflower, parsley flakes, crushed walnut shells, with roofs of palm bark and ti leaves; ivy climbs several of the walls of the houses. The chimneys are strawflower, rice, onion seed, and the smoke stacks are light lettuce seed. The floral decorations at the base of the float include roses, carnations, dendrobium orchids, daisies, tulips, button mums and delphinium.
