Life Takes Flight
“Life Takes Flight” when lives are saved by organ, eye, tissue and blood donations. Recipients of the gift of life are lifted to new heights by the generosity of donors.
One of the most beautiful of the world's celebrations is the balloon festival, and in this celebration of organ and tissue donation, “Life Takes Flight.”
Organ, eye, tissue and blood donation is an opportunity for donor families and transplant recipients worldwide to celebrate. Transplantation is a passport to renewed life for people in need. |

Height: 30’H
Width: 18’W
Length: 50’L
Donate Life’s fifth Rose Parade float entry is an uplifting festival of life, with four colorful hot air balloons adorned with more than 30 floragraphs – artistic portraits created with floral materials – of organ and tissue donors from across the country. The balloons are lifting off above 24 riders whose lives have been saved and renewed by organ, tissue and blood donations. Accompanying the float on foot are eight donor family walkers connected by tether lines to floragraphs of their loved ones. Each balloon carries aloft hundreds of roses dedicated by families and organizations through the Donate Life float’s Family Circle Rose Dedication Program, with each rose carrying a personal message of love and gratitude to a donor, recipient or candidate in need of a transplant. Donate Life encourages parade viewers to save lives by registering to be organ, eye and tissue donors in their states and donating blood in their communities. |
| FLOWERING: |
The balloons are created with (front) yellow and lavender chrysanthemums, (#2) blue statice and parsley flakes, (#3) purple and pink chrysanthemums, (rear) yellow chrysanthemums, lentils and fine cut red strawflower. The base of the float is covered with roses, carnations and daisies. The rope tether lines between outwalkers and balloons/floragraphs are covered with fine cut yellow strawflower. The floragraph pictures of organ donors attached to the balloons are created with a mixture of herbs, spices and seeds. For full information on individuals depicted in the floragraphs go to www.donatelifefloat.org
The baskets of the balloons are filled with more than 1,500 roses dedicated through the Family Circle program to donors, recipients and those waiting for the gift of life.
The dedicated roses will carry personal messages of love, remembrance and gratitude from all 50 states and up to 20 countries, reflecting the parade’s theme, Passport to the World’s Celebrations. |
