Passport to the World of Making Music
Making music has many benefits for people young and old. It helps children learn and allows them to explore their creativity and imagination. NAMM and Sesame Workshop believe that music is important for a complete education for all children and together, celebrate a world of making music with the Rose Parade 2008 float.
Making music is the ultimate expression of celebration for all cultures and for people of all ages. Music is a universal language giving expression to diversity. Making music together connects us, regardless of age or background. |
| FLOAT DESCRIPTION: |
Height: 26'
Width: 18'
Length: 54'
A diverse family of "Sesame Street" characters from different countries joins together to bring us a musical celebration of color and whimsy. United under the traditional "Sesame Street" lamp post and representing the 11 countries of the "Sesame Street" family are (left to right on float): Halum from Bangladesh, who enjoys playing the drum and laughing and who never takes himself too seriously; Lola from Mexico, who is 4 years old and loves rhymes, songs and surprises; Googly from India, who loves science and music; and someone we all know and love, Elmo from "Sesame Street" who is strumming his banjo. Leading the Sesame Band is The Count who like many musicians, is also good at math. The float also features an interactive drum circle hosted by Remo, which has become a signature element of each year's NAMM float reminding us that all of us can make music. On-board celebrities are Bob McGrath, an original cast member of "Sesame Street" - known and loved by original "Sesame Street" watchers, and Olamide Faison who plays Miles on "Sesame Street." They are joined by Rosita who loves to sing and play in both English and Spanish.
The float features a graceful rainbow spilling out over a colorful globe. Multicolored music notes fly around the float, circling the world with music. The animated characters on top of the world (appear to) play along to "Sesame Street" songs from around the world. Three live "Sesame Street" cast members ride and sing at the front of the float with the Remo Drum Circle surrounding the world. |
| FLOWERING: |
The colorful globe and rainbow of the NAMM float are suspended over a base of yellow roses and red ginger. Musical notes dance in groups of light and dark dendrobium orchids. The colors and textures of the land masses on the globe, represent the bounty of the earth: peanuts, corn husks, beans, almonds and dried fruit are all laid in intricate patterns. Hallum is covered in dried diced carrot and onion seed. Elmo's beautiful red fur is done with carnation petals. The Count's healthy purple skin tone can be credited to dried blueberries and blackberries. Lola is pretty in pink, covered with whole pink statice blossoms.
